Contingent Paid Workers of the Department of Education in Ganderbal held protests on Tuesday demanding departmental promotions and other perks.
They said that the authorities were not listening to their grievances and they have been forced to come on the streets to protest so as to get the attention of the government regarding their demands.
The protestors assembled under the banner of All Jammu and Kashmir Contingent Paid Workers Union led by District President Ganderbal at Qamriya Park in Ganderbal town and raised pro-justice slogans.
The protesters said that holding of departmental promotions had been their long-pending demand while they were getting 50 percent quota under SRO-308 but later the department issued an order investing powers in Chief Education Officers to hold the Departmental promotion committee of Contingent Paid Workers .
These protesters alleged that the authorities are only constituting committees and not conducting DPCs. The protestors also appealed to authorities to issue orders for their wages as per Minimum Wages Act. Meanwhile, District President Ganderbal threatens to go for indefinite strike after 2nd April if their demands are not fulfilled.
