Chadoora residents protested on Wednesday near the village Sogam, asking the government to take the steps for the protection of Doodh Ganga Nallah which is a snowfed stream which passes through various areas including Yousmarg and has on it a number of water supply schemes.

Residents of Sogam said that large scale extraction and mining of buildings materials and other substances is going on unabated without any supervision either by the Geology and Mining or by the Fisheries Department. They said that the way the sand and boulders are being extracted from this Nallah, there can be a sinkhole scenario developing on the pattern of Kokernag in Chadoora also.

The protesting residents have appealed to the government to take steps immediately so that this extraction of sand and boulders is stopped in Doodh Ganga Nallah without any further delay.
