Road Safety is the priority of J&K administration and in this direction various steps have been taken in the recent past to minimize the possibilities of mishaps on the roads.

Recently Lt Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting on Road Safety and expressed his concern over deaths due to road accidents.

He directed officers to identify factors contributing to road accidents & take proactive measures; rectify black spots within 3 months.

He also asked different wings of the government to ensure enforcement of safety laws in true spirit; make improvements in response systems, and spread awareness on road safety.

Traffic management has become more & more technology-driven. We need to make necessary technological interventions for highly effective road safety measures and such is the thinking of the J & K administration also and are doing the necessary interventions.

During the review meeting he asked the Health department to develop trauma centers near accident-prone highways to help accident victims during crucial golden hours.

He also ordered District Road Safety Committees to conduct regular meetings for comprehensive, multi-sectoral road safety strategies

Training of traffic police, strengthening manpower, crackdown on drunken driving & speed, roping in volunteers for road safety programs would be important steps to address the challenges in Jammu and Kashmir. But all such measures can be successful only if different wings of the government work in unison and have the required cooperation from the transporters and general public.
