Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha in a tweet informed the people of Jammu and Kashmir about the imposition of night curfew as such curfew has been imposed in Mumbai.

There is no night life in Kashmir valley and the streets are always deserted after the evening hours. Night curfew is virtually meaningless in Kashmir especially in Srinagar city as people do not come out in those hours in which the government has imposed the restrictions.

After a series of high level meetings by the JK administration and after consultations at the highest level, it was decided that lockdown was not an option in the present circumstances but the ban could be imposed on the social gatherings here so as to avoid the spread of infection.

Announcing the decision about the night curfew the government has directed the divisional administration to impose a night curfew from 10 pm to 6 am in the urban areas of the eight districts including five districts of Kashmir affected by the covid-19 infection. While this night curfew may hamper the night prayers during the coming month of Ramdhan in the Masjids of Kashmir, people here have questioned the wisdom of the government saying that otherwise also there is no night life in Kashmir valley.

Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha tweeted about the night curfew and said that it would remain in force in the districts “Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Srinagar, Baramulla, Budgam, Anantnag and Kupwara”.
