Thaw in relations
The latest thaw in the relationship between India and Pakistan has come as a big relief for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and it has certainly shown its impact on the minds here.
First to celebrate the friendship desire and the ceasefire agreement between New Delhi and Islamabad were the border people of Jammu and Kashmir who have suffered immensely as there have been hundreds of cross border violations in which they have lost many of their dear ones.
The cross borders shelling increased especially after the abrogation of article 370 on August 5, 2019, and the thousands of families living near the borders in Jammu and Kashmir had to bear the brunt of such firing and many of them have lost limbs forever by such shelling.
It has impacted the economic life of border residents as they could not carry on the normal agricultural activities in their fields due to the intermittent cross border shelling.
They are visibly happy and have welcomed the latest ceasefire between the two countries by their hearts as they were at the receiving end of the situation.
They only know the costs of such war on the borders as they lived in the underground bunkers for days together due to the heavy shelling as many shells had hit their houses also.
