In spite of the complaints by the student community in Jammu and Kashmir that they have suffered immensely due to the slow speed internet, authorities in a fresh order have announced continuation of 2G internet services in Kashmir.

The government has decided to continue with the low-speed internet citing a series of reasons including the ongoing District Development Council (DDC) polls.

Recently Jamia Millia Islamia has decided to hold online examinations and the students from Jammu and Kashmir have protested for the mode of examination as there is very low speed of internet and also the power cuts.

Even the political leaders of Kashmir including Dr. Farooq Abdullah have said that Jamia Millia Islamia must rethink about holding online examinations for the students of Kashmir as they cannot go for such exams because of low speed disruptive internet.

Many other political leaders have said that the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir must lift the curbs on the high speed internet as the student community is suffering immensely because of the 2G services available.

When the authorities first lifted the curbs on the internet on the trial basis in the two districts of Jammu and Kashmir divisions, it was presumed that they will lift the curbs on the internet speed in the coming months. There have been no violations of government norms in these two districts by the youth and there has been no violence because of high speed internet.
