Jammu in churn
Jammu civil society is in a churn as they are now shaping a huge public resistance for the statehood to Jammu and to separate it from Kashmir. Common people in Jammu do not want to be part of Kashmir anymore as they feel that they are being punished for the wrongs being committed by the leadership of Kashmir along with the people.
Jammu region has remained silent in the past 14 months and has given all support to the BJP government for the abrogation of article 370. They were looking for a new phase of development and also a massive employment package for the Jammu youth after the article 370 was removed.
After the recent promise to the people’s resistance of Ladakh by the Union Home Minister to give them all the safeguards like article 370, people of Jammu want statehood and to be separated from the Kashmir valley at the earliest. Recently more than 20 political parties and social organizations held a meeting in Jammu for the demand of statehood and they are getting a lot of support from the youth.
While the Ladakh region is getting all the attention of the BJP government after the standoff with the Chinese army in the eastern Ladakh, people of Jammu feel led down and allegedly cheated by the BJP as they promised them a good life after the abrogation of article 370.
As the Union Home Ministry is mulling to make a separate law to safeguard the distinct identity of Ladakh along with their land, the new amendments to the land laws have virtually kept all land of Jammu and Kashmir.
