District Horticulture Officer Abdul Hamid of Ganderbal is busy in giving education to the orchardists of how to go for the trimming of trees during these days of October and also what type pesticides to be used to protect the trees from any possible infection.
One of such educational camps was organized by the Horticulture Department at Wakoora in Ganderbal and dozens of orchardists were present to get the technical knowhow of how to trim the trees before the snowfall and also about the use of standard pesticides on time.
Most of the orchardists of Ganderbal have hailed the efforts of Horticulture officers on ground so that they can save their fruit trees from the damage not only by the untimely snowfall but also by the use of sub-standard pesticides.
Most of the fruit orchards in Kashmir valley suffered heavy losses as there was an untimely snowfall in the first week of November last year which resulted in uprooting of fruit trees and also damaged the branches of these trees.
“They have educated us to do the trimming before any snowfall and have also given us information about the standard pesticides to be used for the protection of fruit trees” said Bashir Ahmad War one of the orchardists of Ganderbal to this reporter.
