Zojila tunnel project was recently inaugurated by a virtual blast from New Delhi by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari who expresses confidence that the project will be completed before the next Lok Sabha elections and would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi.

After a lot of technical difficulties, the union government has given the contract to a new company as the earlier contracting company left the work after spending money for one year as they faced a lot of problems in the area due to the difficult terrain.

In a virtual inauguration to start work on Zojila tunnel was carried at Nilgrath area of District Ganderbal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone at Leh and the work was commenced in year 2018 but the contractor stopped work after one year due to financial problems and cost escalation.

Government terminated his contract and the company had asked for a revised contract to the tune of Rs 10 thousand crores instead of earlier allotted work of 6 thousand crores.

The work on this project is a challenge for any contracting company and if the government will be able to get the project completed within the timeline given to the contractor it would be one of the biggest achievements in the push given by the central government to develop border areas.

The people of Leh and Kargil would be really looking forward to the completion of this project as they would be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel and their lives will see a new world after they will remain connected for all the 12 months with Srinagar.
