Mainstream camp in Kashmir is trying to make it self-relevant among the common people as the government has lifted curbs on their political activities especially on the leadership of National Conference. PDP leadership continues to be under curbs and its president Mehbooba Mufti is still detained under PSA from the past 13 months.

Recently all the mainstream political parties barring BJP in Srinagar have said that they will fight peacefully for the restoration of special status and will use all the means available for such struggle.

Recently Dr. Farooq Abdullah told the media that he is against violence and said, “struggle would be Gandhian, as we never believed in stones and bullets”, and also announced that he would raise the issue of reversing everything that was done on August 5, in the coming session inside the parliament.

Farooq has been in touch with his party leaders in Jammu and Ladakh regions and National Conference while demanding back the statehood is looking for voices and struggle to bring back Ladakh region into the fold of J&K State. The central government has carved out Ladakh as a separate Union Territory without legislature.

The National Conference is in favor of a level playing field for all the political parties and it has already demanded the release of Mehbooba Mufti and lifting of curbs on the political activities of the party. If the joint struggle is launched for the restoration of special status it would be the next level of politics in the mainstream camp.
