COVID LOCKDOWN

Now the government has decided to normalize life in spite of the fact that Covid positive cases are increasing everyday and the healthcare system is virtually at the brink of collapse.

Lifting of lockdown amid the growing cases of coronavirus has brought a lot of questions on the efficiency and the intentions of the government as already Kashmir has been under clampdown for the past 13 months. There has been no government intervention financially as the families have been left to virtually beg without any financial package.

The Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA) recently said the five-month-long Covid-19 lockdown has brought losses of Rs 20,000 crore. The KTA said the lockdown had not led to a decrease in Covid-19 positive cases and therefore the government should relax the clampdown which is unreasonable.

In the first phase of the lockdown, shops, businesses and shopping malls remained closed for three running months in Kashmir valley. During this period, the number of cases still increased. In the second phase, shops in Srinagar and other districts were kept closed for 20 consecutive days, but even during that period, the number of coronavirus cases increased.

After Eid, shops and businesses have been closed but we still have around 500 positive cases every day and it has started a campaign among the people about the failed policies of the government to contain Covid-19 and has given growth to the perception in Kashmir that BJP wants to cripple Kashmir economy and Covid was only a cover.
