AILING TOURIST INDUSTRY

There has been virtually no tourism in Jammu and Kashmir in the past ten months and the industry is at the brink of closure with growing financial problems of the stakeholders. Government has not been able to intervene to save thousands of families connected with this trade.

Even for the coronavirus lockdown period these families got no incentive or financial intervention from the government while as government clampdown in August last year resulted in huge losses to the tourist industry in Jammu and Kashmir without any central assistance.

In such a situation, these families connected with tourist trade are virtually looking for survival with no tourist inflow. UT administration has been only assuring them of help but so far nothing has been done for the tourist industry in Jammu and Kashmir to remain afloat.

Recently Kashmir Economic Alliance leaders told the media that in the past few years there have been 3000 days of disruptive life in Kashmir and the government should understand the losses and reverses suffered by the people connected with tourist trade.

Coronavirus lockdown has proved the last nail in the coffin of the tourist industry and government especially the central government should make a comprehensive package after having talks with all the tourist trade organizations so that some cash money goes to their accounts so that they can survive along with their families after having no tourism for a year now.

If the government does not take some immediate steps for financial intervention in this sector, it would be much sad and painful to witness these families trying to survive with their children.
