HAILSTORM
In the past weeks, hailstorms have hit orchardists across Kashmir and there are media reports that heavy losses have been incurred by the farmers and without any compensation by the government they cannot come out of the debt trap.
In this direction many political parties of Kashmir have appealed to the UT administration to fix the timeline for the survey and compensation suffered by farmers in Kashmir by hailstorm.
In this direction several leaders of Apni Party also urged the government to pay attention toward the sufferings of inhabitants of the border districts of J&K especially Baramulla district who are craving for basic amenities and the hailstorm has added to their worries.
Many political parties have expressed similar sentiments for the farmers and orchardists across Kashmir who have suffered a lot in the past few days due to frequent hailstorms. Earlier also the horticulture sector has received several setbacks and most of the fruit growers could not transport out their apples stored in cold storage due to covid-19 lockdown.
All the fruit growers and farmers are waiting from a comprehensive financial package keeping in view their losses not only during the clampdown August last year but also untimely snowfall November last year in which thousands of grown fruit trees were uprooted. UT administration has so far maintained silence on this crucial issue and there has been no intervention from the central government for the compensation to be provided to the farmers and fruit growers.
