JU organizes one Day Workshop on ‘Nai Talim’ Work Education and community Engagement
Jammu: A one day curriculum development workshop on ‘Nai Talim’ -Work Education and Community Engagement was organized by the Department of Education, University of Jammu, Jammu here this morning at the University of Jammu. The workshop was organized in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi Council of Rural Education (MGCRE), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India (GOI).
Prof. M.K. Dhar, Vice-Chancellor Uni versity of Jammu, Jammu in his inaugural address emphasized that the theme of the workshop was relevant in present scenario and there was need to preserve the environment by involving schools and community at all levels.
Calling upon the teachers as the agents of change, Prof. Dhar said that teachers are actually responsible for the future of the students. Prof. Dhar exhorted upon the teacher educators to focus on overall development of student where the emphasis is on the intellectual as well as moral growth of the students. The education should not only prepare a child professionally but it should inculcate in them the moral values, he added. He exhorted upon the educators to lay more emphasis on outcome based education where the focus is on students. He said that the challenges for the teachers have increased manifold as the present day student is more informed and therefore the teachers also need to be updated with the latest studies taking place worldwide in order to come up to the expectations of the students.
Prof. Dhar stressed on the value based education along with the formal education and said that there is a need to bring reforms in the present curriculum for the holistic development of the student. The education should be socially relevant, and for that the curricula should be designed in such a way that the students are able to respond to the changes in the society, he added and also asked for providing practical knowledge to the students and involving them in the upliftment of the society.
Resource person, Dr. V. P. Sharma, Senior academic consultant, MGNCRE, Department of education, govt. of India emphasized the need for integrating B.Ed. curricul um with Work Education and inculcating values among students.
Prof. Mubarak Singh, introduced the guests with the theme of the workshop.Earlier, Prof. Renu Nanda, Head, Department of Education, University of Jammu welcomed the guests.
The vote of thanks for the inaugural session was presented by Dr. Kajal Manhas.
In the next session, the participants were introduced to the concept of Curriculum Developm ent on Nai Talim, Work Education and community Engagement. In the Post lunch session four groups were formed where group one, two, three and four were asked to perform some activity on curriculum development on Nai-Talim, Work Education and Community Engagement from classes I-IV, VI-VIII, IX-X and XI-XII respectively.
In the Valedictory Session, Prof. Mubarak Singh welcomed the participants. Prof. Keshav Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu congratulated the Department of Education for the successful organization of the workshop. Prof. Rajni Kant, Director Colleges Development, University of Jammu appreciated the involvement of B.Ed. Colleges in the workshop as B.Ed. students are involved in field work and are in direct contact with the community. Ms. Minakshi Choudhary extended the vote of thanks.
Sixty participants from various B.Ed. Colleges of Jammu district participated in the workshop.
Others members present in the workshop were Prof. Rajeev Rattan and Dr. Sushanta Panda. The workshop was also attended by Prof. Darshana Sharma, Dean Faculty of Education, University of Jammu, Heads and faculty members of various departments of University of Jammu, Jammu.
