Blast accused Kashmiri scholar gets bail after 16 years

Srinagar: Supreme Court on Tuesday granted bail to a Ph.D. scholar of Aligarh Muslim University, Gulzar Ahmed Wani a resident of Kashmir, after he spent 16 years in jail. Wani was arrested by Delhi police in 2001 and claimed at that time that they have arrested him with explosives and other material. He was accused of engineering a blast in Sabarmati Express train in the year 2000. Wani is another Kashmiri student who will walk to freedom after spending 16 years in the jail. In the recent past half a dozen Kashmiri youth were acquitted by the courts after spending decades in different jails of the country on the charges which were never proved in the court of law.
