Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet Approves Death Penalty to Child Rapists

Srinagar : The state cabinet headed by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday approved an ordinance to allow courts to pronounce death penalty to child rapists.

Reports said that the Criminal law ordinance 2018 (amendment) and Jammu Kashmir Protection of Children from Sexual Violence were approved by the cabinet which met today in Jammu.

The ordinance would be at par with the Government of India’s law on death to accused found guilty of raping a victim up to twelve years of age. Those guilty of raping a victim, aged between 13 and 16, will get lifer.
