Doctor detained after recovery of ammunition in South Kashmir

A doctor was allegedly thrashed and detained after forces recovered arms and ammunition from his vehicle in Mir Bazar area of Kulgam in south Kashmir on Saturday night.

A source said that a man carrying a bag boarded the car of Dr Aijaz Rasool of Khrewan Malpora after asking him for a ride.

However, the man fled away leaving his bag behind when the car was asked to stop at a naka laid by the forces at Mir Bazar.

During search of the vehicle, forces claimed to have recovered an AK-47 with two magazines and a pistol with a magazine.

Reports said that the forces thrashed the doctor.

Meanwhile, a police spokesman, in a statement, said that at a naka point at Al stop in Mir bazaar the naka party intercepted a vehicle which was searched.

“During search one 9 mm pistol with one magazine and one AK 47 with two magazines were recovered from the vehicle,” he said.

The driver of the vehicle has been taken into custody. Police have started the investigation into the matter, he said.
