Supported by all political parties, except her alliance partners BJP , State CM Mehbooba Mufti has decided to put off proposed panchayat elections indefinitely. She was told by her party PDP and opposition NC that situation was not conducive for holding such polls in Kashmir valley. In the past one year Mehbooba government has postponed by-polls of Anantnag parliament seat and now panchayat polls.
Reports said that Mehbooba was being pushed by central government and governor N.N Vohra to hold panchayat polls at any cost. Fearing more violence and drift in the situation, Mehbooba Mufti today held an all party meeting only to put off the proposed elections. Reports said that Central Government and state BJP were so sure about the elections that union home ministry had kept ready 400 additional companies of paramilitary forces to hold these elections in Kashmir valley.
