Govt Issues Heat Safety Advisory for Jammu Kashmir Schools
SRINAGAR: The Department of School Education, Jammu and Kashmir, has issued hot weather guidelines for schools across the Union Territory, with a focus on safeguarding children from heat-related illnesses.
The advisory highlights that children are more vulnerable to heat as they tend to heat up faster and sweat less than adults. It cautions that children may not always feel thirsty during play, urging teachers and staff to remind them to drink water regularly.
Heads of schools have been directed to implement the following safety measures; Stay Hydrated:, Seek Shade, Check Surfaces, and Classroom Comfort.
The department has advised extra care for young children, physically challenged students, and those with chronic illnesses such as asthma.
The initiative comes amid a broader public health concern over prolonged exposure to high temperatures, which can significantly affect children’s health and learning capacity.
The government has urged all educational institutions to comply strictly with the guidelines to prevent any health emergencies during the summer months.
