Awareness Camp on Micro Food Processing Enterprises Held in Bemina, Srinagar

Srinagar: A one-day awareness camp on Micro Food Processing Enterprises was successfully held at Bemina, Srinagar, under the Prime Minister’s “Formulation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises” (PMFME) scheme. The camp was organized by the Office of the Area Marketing Officer, who also serves as the District Nodal Officer for PMFME Srinagar.

The primary aim of the camp was to spread awareness about the importance of micro food processing and to equip local stakeholders especially growers, traders and entrepreneurs with practical knowledge and skills to start or expand food processing ventures in the region.

The event saw the participation of several notable dignitaries, including Mrs. Asima Rafiq, Scientist, Food Science and Technology at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Srinagar. Representatives from banks, allied departments, and beneficiaries of existing food processing units were also present. A large number of growers, traders, and members of the Iqbal Sabzi Mandi Batmaloo Traders Association attended the session.

The camp featured informative sessions led by scholars, the Area Marketing Officer, the Assistant Grading and Marketing Officer, the District Resource Person, and the President of Iqbal Sabzi Mandi. These experts shared their insights on the scope, processes, and benefits of setting up micro food processing units particularly under the “One District One Product” (ODOP) initiative.

The camp served as a valuable platform for interaction and experience sharing among participants. It fostered meaningful discussions on how small-scale food processing can become a viable and sustainable source of livelihood in the region.

By the end of the programme, participants left with a deeper understanding of the resources available to them and a renewed motivation to explore opportunities in this growing sector. The initiative is expected to pave the way for the establishment of new enterprises and strengthen existing ones ultimately contributing to local employment generation and economic development.
