๐๐ซ๐ข: The border villages continue to remain deserted as hundreds of families have migrated to safer places, though in the past few weeks there has been a pause in the shelling between India and Pakistan After the recent civilian killings and injurious even to minors, the families living close to the border have decided to come back as the summer season is already calling them back to do their horticulture and agriculture activities.
There is complete calm on the borders and the residents of the Uri and adjoining areas are trying to rebuild their lives with no resources from the government. โ We are waiting for the government compensation package and presently we are living with our relatives as our house has been completed damagedโ, Attullah Khatana who along with many such families are trying to survive during these difficult times.
Incessant border shelling by the Pakistani troops has destroyed houses and other properties in Uri and adjacent areas. Most of the fields have been left unattended by the farmers as they fear any such incidents to recur in the villages which are close to border.
Dozens of families are living in shelters provided by relatives and non-government organizations. Uri is calling โ let us answer with compassion is the campaign started by a non-government organization in Uri which is trying for crowd funding through social media to provide some help to those families which are shelter less at present. Abshar Trust is trying to locals as the town of Uri along with many border villages are facing hardships after the cross border shelling.
According to Abshar Trust more than 500 homes were damaged or destroyed in the shelling and they are trying to provide help to the impacted families around Uri villages.
