Srinagar

Cherry trees with ripe fruit over them are ready for plucking in Dara Harwan area of Srinagar. The traders who deal in the cherry fruit are very happy with the produce.

The villagers normally give their orchards to those traders who deal in this fruit early because they fear that the storms and other such natural calamities can leave them even without that money which they get from the traders.

Cherry is a unique fruit of Kashmir and it is also canned by many factories in Kashmir valley as this canned fruit is used during the wedding ceremonies for the serving of wazwan.

Cherry fruit is also cultivated in Ganderbal district as it has vast orchards of cherry and most of such fruit not only goes to the local mandies but also to the markets outside Jammu and Kashmir.
