New protocol
After the assurances to the DDC members Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha has directed his administration to provide all assistance and support to the DDC councils so that they start the dream development on the ground in Jammu and Kashmir.
On the instructions of Manoj Sinha Jammu and Kashmir government recently amended its earlier protocol order of precedence and has now placed chairpersons of district development council’s equivalent to that of mayors within their respective territorial jurisdictions. The DDC chairpersons have been placed at serial number 19 A in the warrant of precedence equal to a mayor of the city.
Similarly in the new protocol order DDC vice-chairpersons have been placed at serial number 26, equivalent to all administrative secretaries, divisional commissioners, IGPs, chief conservator of forests, joint secretaries to the government of India and officers of equivalent rank and officers of the rank of Major General or equivalent rank within their respective jurisdictions.
It is to be seen how the DDC members will react to the new protocol and if they are satisfied with the latest amendments in the order. The agitating members who have already said that they should be given the due perks and protocols have not reacted so far.
Similarly DDC members at serial number 28 equivalent to district magistrates, officers of the rank of brigadiers and equivalent, major heads of department, conservator of forests and district & session Judges.
