Inclement weather in Jammu and Kashmir during the spring season is nothing new but the recent heavy spells of rain have not only disrupted life in many places but have even filled the main roads of Srinagar city with water.

There is an ailing system prevailing and the entire drainage system of Srinagar city along with its fringes needs a relook by the government and they should ponder over this problem that why this drainage system has failed and why the streets get filled with rain waters every time there is a heavy downpour.

Recently the heavy showers of rains in the plains lashed the localities and the roads while in the upper reaches even the fresh snowfall was reported.

Light snowfall in the upper reaches has brought fresh chill in these hilly areas but night temperature improved further and settled several degrees above normal across Kashmir valley, where weather is expected to improve in the coming weeks.

This spell of rains has again resulted in disruption of surface traffic on Kashmir highway, and Sadhna top in Karnah. Traffic was again suspended on the national highway, the only all weather road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, due to landslides triggered by rain.

What is ailing the highway that even during the spring season we have failed to keep the lifeline to Kashmir valley open?
