Life remained disrupted in Kashmir valley on Saturday on the call of moderate Hurriyat Conference, in protest against recent amendments to the land laws allowing outsiders to purchase land in entire Jammu and Kashmir without any hassles.
According to the local news agency the call was given by Mirwaiz Hurriyat Conference and evoked mixed response. Although shops and business establishments were closed, there was a lot of private traffic on the roads in many parts of Srinagar.
Most of the passenger traffic was off the roads and the streets were having a deserted look with visible security men at all the sensitive places in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir.

According to the news agencies Kashmir Valley is observing a complete shutdown on Saturday, marking the one year since articles 370 and 35A were officially revoked and the erstwhile state was broken down into two union territories, on the call of the Hurriyat Conference.
On 5 August 2019, the BJP had announced in the parliament that it would reorganize the erstwhile state into two federally governed territories. Since then, the party has imposed sweeping laws like domicile and regarding the ownership of land.
In a tweet, the Conference had said: “We the people of Jammu and Kashmir will not bow down. We will continue to resist the Indian State’s designs to steal our land and destroy our identity.”
Nearly all shops and business establishments are closed while traffic is off the roads in the Valley.
