Till recently there were very few barbeque kiosks, available on Boulevard road. They were finally given a space by the LAWDA authorities near Makai point on the rim of Dal Lake.
During the pandemic people especially youth in dozens prefer to enjoy mutton barbeque on Boulevard road and it has resulted in dozens of such kiosks in the past few months especially during the pandemic.
Most of them are from the Hanji community living with the Dal Lake as they have no source of income because of zero tourism in the past 15 months.

The road from Nishat Garden up to Hazratbal is also witnessing dozens of such barbeque kiosks having a lot of crowds around especially during the evening hours.
While the senior citizens and some members of the society have expressed their concern over such growth of barbeque kiosks at a ecologically fragile place like Dal Lake, but the people who are running them argue that they have to feed their families and have found that they can at least earn something by selling these “mutton tujjis” as called in Kashmir.
Many parents living in the vicinity of Boulevard road and Foreshore road have expressed their apprehensions about the growth of such tujji points around them and claim that it is becoming a hub of anti-social activities and also a sitting place for drug addicts.
Despite opposition to the growth of tujji points around Dal Lake, in these days of autumn, the evening is complete only when there is a crowd of youth around these points enjoying their tujjis with different varieties of chattnies.
