CRISIS AND SOLUTION
What has the government done in the past five months of lockdown to equip the hospitals of Kashmir to treat Covid-19 patients? With the authorities failing to flatten the curve, now the government has decided to ease the lockdown showing that their previous decisions to keep the population indoors were wrong and ill conceived.
Has the authority fixed responsibility for such lapses to deal such a crisis is a question being asked in the public circles. Now the new LG has assumed the office and it is expected by the common people of Kashmir that he will reverse such decisions of administration as it is no rocket science to understand that the officers have been only playing to galleries and were doing nothing on ground to combat Covid-19 crisis.
Sensing such complex problems only enhancing, district magistrate of Srinagar in a latest statement said that there is no need of lockdown now if the people follow SoP’s to bring down coronavirus cases. He said that 50% of markets would be opened if people adhere to guidelines of the government.
Amid such high expectations, it seems that there would be no visible change on the ground on any front including development in the near future as the change of LG is no magic wand in the hands of New Delhi to change everything from political narrative to development in Jammu and Kashmir especially in the valley. But new LG can at least try to provide people friendly government and break the caucus of senior bureaucrats who have been calling the shots for all the important decisions taken in the past few months especially in Srinagar city.
