Hundreds of families in different villages all along the LOC in Kupwara, Poonch and Rajouri have been living a miserable life from the past few weeks reason being increased mortar shelling.

They are facing a huge challenge as on one hand they have mortar shells while on the other hand they have covid-19 threat. These families have failed to maintain social distance due to this continuous shelling as it has killed three civilians in Kupwara and injured about 10 people in Poonch and Keran sectors.

Villagers are caught between raining shells and red zones of coronavirus as the villagers in the adjoining villages have refused to provide them any shelter due to covid-19 threat. The covid-19 threat in the entire union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has evaporated element of compassion as many of their relatives closed their doors fearing spread of infection.

This attitude of their own people including their neighbors and relatives has forced them to return to their damaged homes to face the shells as they are not getting any help either from administration or from fellow villagers.

In Kupwara when dozens of women along with their children tried to enter into an adjoining area they were stopped by police and were not allowed to enter as that the area has been declared as red zone. It is most unfortunate that despite killings and injuries of common people district administration Kupwara has remained silent and has done nothing to provide those families, places of shelter where they can maintain social distance amid shelling in their areas.
