Recently sacked minister Chowdhary Lal Singh, held a protest rally from Jammu to Kuthwa and demanded CBI inquiry into the Kuthwa minor’s rape and murder case. Despite party directions which they conveyed to media that we are satisfied with the crime branch inquiry, Chowdhary Lal Singh demanded the resignation of State CM Mehbooba Mufti on moral grounds.
This protest rally has given new life to the Hindu right in Kuthwa and samba districts. It showed immediate results on a rumour of cow slaughter, there was stone pelting and some media reported assets on the minority community. As everything in Jammu region is being done under tri colour, there was not even a police case against the stone pelting and harassment. They are not afraid now as the recently sacked two BJP ministers have started using their activists in the communally sensitive areas of Jammu region to polarise the situation in order to create more trouble for Mehbooba mufti in this region.
Under coalition compulsions, state CM Mehbooba Mufti who also holds home portfolio has not given any green signal to the police to file FIR’s against two recently sacked BJP ministers for spreading hatred and galvanising mobs to obstruct crime branch investigation in Hiranager area. BJP has won all the twenty five seats in the last assembly election in the Jammu region mainly by polarising the region. The connection between the entire Hindu fringe brigade and BJP lawmakers is known to police and state intelligence department. But the authorities don’t muster courage to file cases or to arrest such elements in Jammu region.
MP of Kuthwa and Udampoor Dr Jitendar Singh who also is a minister in PMO has said on Tuesday that central government has no objection to handover the case to CBI if the Mehbooba mufti government requests for the same. He has also repeated the CBI rant despite the fact the BJP general secretary Ram Madhav in Jammu recently said that they are satisfied with the investigation of state crime branch. With rumours being spread in Jammu region, there are apprehensions if the Hindu fringe elements continue to move freely with their present communal agenda, the minorities in Jammu region are becoming more and more vulnerable. How much police has a free hand to deal with culprits in Jammu region can be ascertained from the fact that Kuthwa minor’s family had to move to the Supreme Court along with their advocate both of them seeking protection to plead the case of how they were being given open threats by Hindu fringe. Despite Supreme Court direction to the state police chief to provide security to the victim’s family and witness latest report from Jammu said that they have yet to get it from the state.
