JAMMU – As a mark of solidarity with striking SSA teachers, Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana on Friday sat on dharna with them here and regretted non-seriousness of the administration, especially the Department of Education, in fulfilling their genuine and long pending demands.

“It doesn’t augur well for the State government to force teachers to take to streets”, Mr Rana said and expressed concern over delay in resolving their issues to end the stalemate, having potential of jeopradising academic career of thousands of students, directly hit by the strikes.

He also expressed distress over withholding the salaries of various segments of workers, especially SSA teachers and not bringing them under the ambit of 7th Pay Commission recommendations and hoped that uncertainty with regard to their service careers would end and they will be provided whatever is due to them so that they devote to their duties with missionary spirit. He sought immediate dialogue with striking SSA teachers.

Mr Rana referred to the plight of SSA teachers, who are without their salaries months and said the insensitivity of the previous PDP-BJP government has left over 40,000 families high and dry. He justified their demand for streamlining of salaries of SSA teachers, implementation of transfer policy, regularization policy and release of pending arrears, hoping that the government will show some sort of compassion towards the striking teachers.

“Despite assurances by the successive Education Ministers of the previous insensitive government, nothing has been done for to fulfill their demands’, Rana said and advised the concerned administrative department not test patience of striking teachers anymore. He hoped that reason will prevail upon those at the helm of affairs so that the grievances of the striking SSA teachers are redressed in a time bound manner.
