Fear grips Valley
Unidentified gunmen have shot dead Geelani-led Hurriyat activist and a student in two different incidents in Kashmir Valley, sending fresh fears on the streets that government gunmen were given free hand. Another civilian of Kupwara district was shot dead in Srinagar by unidentified gunmen, sending shock waves among the people as they fear that government agencies could be involved in such killings.
Hurriyat activist Hakeem-ur-Rehman was shot dead by unidentified gunmen near his house at Bomai Sopore, the strong hold of Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Separatists have said that the Central Government has resurrected Ikhwan-type government militias in order to kill pro-freedom activists. Police has said that they have registered a case and have started investigation into the killing of Hurriyat activist at Sopore. Police is maintaining that all such killings are being done by the militants and they have started investigation in all such killings.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) said that they have constituted a committee to gather the details about the killing Rehman. JRL said that he was released from the jail recently after 20 months of incarceration. Hours after the incident of Sopore, `unknown gunmen’ again struck in Naseem Bagh area of Hazratbal in Srinagar and killed an IUST student. Giving details police said that he was killed by some unidentified gunmen and they have recovered his identified card which shows as Ishfaq Ahmad a student of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST). SSP Srinagar Imtiaz Ismail Parray told media that they were trying to identify the victim and claimed that they have also recovered a pistol from his possession.
