Rafiabad gunfight: Five militants trapped in Dooniwari woods, says DGP vaid

Srinagar: Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid Wednesday confirmed the presence of five militants trapped in the ongoing gunfight with forces in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir.

“Encounter going on in Dooniwari forest area of Police Station Dangiwacha Sopore, report of presence of 5 terrorists. Wish success to our boys,” Vaid tweeted.

Earlier a fierce gunbattle broke out between militants and government forces in forest area of Rafiabad in northern Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Sources said that after input about the presence of militants in the upper reaches of Rafiabad forests, a joint team of army’s 32 RR and 9 PARA commandos launched a cordon-and-search operation during in wee hours.

During the CASO the forces made a contact with the hiding militants thereby ensuing a gunfight.

Reports said that a para commando has sustained injuries during the ongoing gunfight.
