Will meet Guv about ‘discrimination, atrocities’ against Srinagar: NC

Srinagar,: Calling Srinagar as ‘heart and Crown’ of Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference (NC) on Saturday said that the party would call upon the Governor N N Vohra to discuss the alleged atrocities and discrimination with the people of the district since PDP-BJP bonhomie in the State.
According to the KNS correspondent, addressing a news conference, NC General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar who was flanked by NC provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani and other constituency Incharges of Srinagar said that the people here are facing discrimination and atrocities since the formation of PDP-BJP in the state, three years ago.
“Following South Kashmir, the Srinagar was targeted wherein an atmosphere of insecurity was created thus leaving the people to lurch at large,” Sagar told reporters here at Nawa-e-Subah.
He said that it not for the first that party is raising this issue during Governor’s Rule but they have already brought these issues into the notice of Late Mufti’s and Mehbooba led government in the State. “The party has decided to meet Governor N N Vohra and Advisors to take up this issue once again and urge them to look into the matter,” he said, adding that they will be meeting the Governor soon.
Sagar said that curfews, restrictions, atrocities, economic losses and discrimination are at peak in Srinagar. “We hope the Vohra led administration will look into it,” he added.
NC provincial president that the works started during Omar Abdullah’s tenure were halted for no reasons. “During our tenure, we constructed first Sub District hospital in Srinagar at Chanapora but that was not made functional. We appeal to the Governor to make it functional while as the motorable bridges constructed by Omar led government were converted into pedestrian bridge. We appeal Vohra led administration to convert them to motorable bridges,” he said.
“The people in Srinagar are suffering due to the atrocities and discriminations,” the NC leader said, adding that from last three years, the historic Jamia Masjid was closed for 52 Fridays even the Masjid and Hazratbal was closed for on Eid eve ass well during 2016.
“Those who were delivering sermons during our tenure crossed the limits of tyranny,” Sagar added.
He also said that backdoor appointments and scams were at peak during PDP led rule in JK. “It is not we who are alleging but the disgruntled leaders of PDP have even produced the documents of scams done in the rule,” he said.
Meanwhile NC provincial president condemned the killing of three civilians in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, saying there should be an immediate end to the killings in Kashmir.
“We condemn the killings. We had hoped that such killings would stop but it was still continuing. We appeal to the governor to stop these killings,” Wani said.
Sagar further said that the party is of the opinion that oppressive and suppressive measures won’t prove result. “Military against is not any solution but Kashmir is a political issue and should be resolved politically,” he said.
