Doctors go for strike after DC Bandipora allegedly abuses a Medical Officer

Bandipora, April 9, KNT: At a time when Government is maintaining that Doctors and Para-medical staff are risking their lives in the line of duty, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shahbaz Mirza allegedly abused a medical officer over phone forcing doctors and Para-medical staff to go for a strike in Coronavirus hit Hajin Block of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Bandipora has witnessed over 30 confirmed Covid-19 cases so for. “We are working day in and day out with dedication and yet we receive abuses and invectives from the officials who never dare to come close to a Covid-19 patient,” said a doctor to Kashmir News Trust.

Irked over why the doctors allowed 7 persons who had completed their quarantine period at Community Health Centre Hajin to go home, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora according to doctors showered naked abuses to a medical officer in Hajin Block. The victim medical officer, identified as Nisar Ahmed was dumbfounded after listening to the abuses over phone.

“We simply followed the guidelines prescribed by the Government and allowed those to go home who were tested negative and had completed quarantine period,” the doctors said adding that they won’t resume the work till action is initiated against the DDC Bandipora. They said DDC Bandipora has no courtesy and at least he should apologize for his behavior.

Meanwhile, SDM and Noadal Officer for Coronavirus visited Hajin and tried to persuade the health professions to call off their strike, however, the doctors and para-medical staff didn’t oblige and sought apology from the DDC Bandipora.

Dr Muzafar Zargar told KNT that DDC Bandipora is known for his arrogance and action needs to be taken against him for abusing his colleague.

Despite repeated attempts, DDC Bandipora Shahbaz Mirza didn’t respond to phone calls. (KNT)
