Srinagar: Good news is just around the corner as Ladakh is expected to get COVID-19 free in the coming days.

Official figures reveal that 14 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 in Ladakh.  Of whom 10 have recovered but continue to remain in the quarantine facility.

Chushot village in Leh reported majority of the cases. Few cases also showed up from Kargil.

“496 samples have been sent to National Center for Disease Control, Delhi for screening up to April 6. Also, four patients from Leh and three from Kargil are in the isolation facility,” said an official of the Ladakh health service department.

He said the administration has placed strict measures in place to contain the spread of the virus. “For instance, Chushot village has been sealed completely after many positive cases emerged from the area. These patients had a travel history to Iran,” he said.

He noted that following guidelines, the close contacts of COVID-19 positive patients were immediately traced and put under quarantine.

“The area continues to remain earmarked as sensitive zone and under surveillance,” the official said.

Similarly, Sankoo village in Kargil is being continuously monitored.

Further, the administration has converted several hotels in Leh as quarantine centers.

State Surveillance Officer Dr. Iqbal Ladakhi said the administration has ensured that adequate number of personal protection equipment (PPEs) is made available for the medicos and front line health workers.

“Besides, our health officials check on the patients under home quarantine and administrative centers thrice a day,” Dr. Iqbal said.
