DDC Pulwama for revival of Handloom, Handicraft sectors

PULWAMA, MARCH 13: The District Development Commissioner, Pulwama, Dr Raghav Langer today convened a meeting to review functioning of Handicrafts and Handloom departments.

The meeting was attended by Additional Directors of Handicraft, Handloom departments, Lead Bank Manager, Block Programme Officer NRLM and other concerned.

The meeting was informed that 20 training centres with intake capacity of 25 trainees are functional across the district and 199 unskilled youth have been trained in various crafts so far in these centers, While 1487 artisan cards have been provided to skilled persons.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said a coordinated effort of all the line departments is required to revive the Handicraft and Handloom sector. He said that the sectors have potential to make people self- economically.

He asked the concerned officers for conducting fairs, exhibitions and buyer-seller meets across the district. He said branding, marketing and patronage of the produce would be pivotal in reviving these sectors.

The DDC directed the concerned for creating a viable action plan to link artisan community with the available credit system.
