Drug addiction is growing in Kashmir Valley and also in the Jammu region in the past few years. The basic reason for the growth is the growing frustration among the unemployed youth and also among those teenagers who have no space available for any joy or entertainment. The growing menace has its roots in the few kingpins of this trade who have minted crores of rupees in the past few years.

The authorities especially police is too busy in other spheres and they have no time available to nip the evil in the bud. Police in the recent past on the instructions of Governor’s administration has started a drive against the kingpins who are doing the drug trade in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir. Many of them have been arrested and people especially the parents of those children who have been affected have welcomed such move of the government.

Police has also intensified its drive against the drug peddlers in rest of the Kashmir valley and according to the media reports they have arrested dozens of them. The novel method adopted by police against these drug peddlers is worth praise as they have slapped PSA on some of them. The people in Kashmir especially the parents of young children have appealed police to use PSA against such cancers of the society and keep them in the jails for years. They have also appealed police and authorities to intensify this drive especially around the educational institutions of Kashmir.

There have been news reports that drug peddlers were operating around schools and colleges in Kashmir Valley and police should bust such gangs at the earliest to save the future generations from this curse of drug addiction. Police has really worked very hard in the past few weeks against the gangs operating at the best of the kingpins of this trade.
