Handwara Gunfight: Civilian killed

Srinagar:A civilian was killed on Friday near a gunfight site during clashes between the government forces and people in Babgund village of Langate in north Kashmir’s Handwara town.

An official identified slain civilian as Waseem Ahmad Mir son of Mohammad Akber a resident of Sagipora village of Sopore.

He said the injured civilian was brought dead to district hospital Handwara.

Earlier CRPF Inspector and a policeman were killed and five other forces personnel were injured in the gunfight.

The gunfight in Babgund began on late night after a joint team of army and SOG launched a cordon-and-search operation following specific inputs about the presence of some militants. As such the joint team of forces intensified the searches and fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire triggering off a gunfight.

When last reports came in gunfight amid clashes were going on.
