Top Lashkar Commander Naveed Jatt among two militants killed in Budgam gunfight

Srinagar: Top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Naveed Jatt has been killed in a gunfight with government forces in Chattergam area of Budgam district in central Kashmir.

A police spokesperson said Naveed Jatt alias Hanzallah affiliated with proscribed militant outfit LeT was killed in the gunfight that raged since early Wednesday.

Police had blamed Jatt for the assassination of senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari in June this year.

The gunfight had erupted in Kuthipora area of Chattergam soon after the government forces launched a search operation in the area.

The authorities, routinely, have suspended mobile internet services in the district while the train services across Kashmir region have been suspended as a “precautionary measure”.

Three soldiers were wounded in the gunfight.
