LAHDC Kargil Executive Councillors inspects Snow clearance at Zojilla

KARGIL |Executive Councillor LAHDC Kargil, Zakir Hussain and Punchok Tashi today visited Zojilla pass and took stock of the snow clearance work on the Kargil Srinagar National Highway in the aftermath of the recent untimely snowfall.

Councillor Poyen Mohammad Amin, Councillor Thasgam Abdul Rahim, Sub Divisional Magistrate Drass Pawan Kotwal, SHO Minamarg accompanied the CEC during the tour.

The EC’s took a brief from the officers about the snow clearance works presently in progress on the highway. Both the Executive Councillors later meet with SHO Sonamarg Manzoor Ahmed and appealed him to extend his support to keep clear the National Highway as there are hundreds of Stranded passengers and trucks with essential commodities have to reach Kargil.

While hailing the efforts of the engineers and laborers engaged in the snow clearance works, both the EC’s urged upon them to redouble their efforts for early restoration of the highway, so as to ensure passage of the stranded passengers on either side of the highway.

“Today we are here to inspect the ongoing snow clearance work at Zojilla pass and we are very glad that BRO has cleared the snow and there is a need to expand the road clearance so that the trucks can easily ply on the road” Said Zakir Hussain and Punchok Tashi.

Both the executive Councillors also appealed Chairman JK legislative council Kargil Haji Anayat Ali to stay at his office in Srinagar and meet with Governor, BRO Director and Divisional commissioner so that the highway will remain open few more days.

It is pertinent to mention here that Ladakh (Kargil-Leh) region remain cut off from the state  for 4 to 6 months every year in winter after heavy snowfall at Zojilla Pass.
