In the recent past Central and State BJP leaders have claiming that they have made lot of inroads in Kashmir Valley. They have also criticized National Conference and PDP for boycotting the Civic and Panchayat elections. BJP General Secretary  and Kashmir in-charge Ram Madhav during his latest visit to J&K State has asked the party candidates to be brave in Kashmir Valley and file their nominations. He took a swipe on the boycott call of National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and claimed that they have filed proxy candidates in Kashmir Valley and Jammu region. Recently he told media that BJP was hopeful to win good number of seats for the Municipal Committees in all the three regions of the State.

The claim of Ram Madhav about the proxy candidates being fielded by NC and PDP comes after National Conference Spokesman and close friend of Omar Abdullah Junaid Mattu, resigned and said that he will contest the election for Srinagar Municipal Council SMC. Congress and BJP have already accused National Conference of fielding proxy candidates in Srinagar city as they were earlier also holding the fort of Srinagar Municipal Committee.

BJP, Congress and ally of BJP Peoples’ Conference of Sajjad Lone are in the election fray while as rest of all the parties including CPI (M) have decided to boycott these elections and have linked these polls with stand of Central Government regarding Article 35(A).

Media and political circles were shocked by the recent television interview of State Governor Satya Pal Malik when he named who would be the Mayor of Srinagar city. He during the interview allegedly claimed that NC rebel candidate Junaid Azim Mattoo would be the Mayor of Srinagar and he will serve the people of the city better than Farooq Abdullah.
