Class 10th, 12th exams: Teachers, Parents urge authorities to defer exam
SRINAGAR: The decision by the Advisor Governor to conduct Class 10 and 12 examinations between 16 October to 16 November has triggered an uncertainty of sorts in the state’s Education department, with teachers and school heads urging the authorities to defer exam as students have not completed syllabuses.
It seems teacher, students and parents are not happy with the decision. Press Trust of Kashmir talks to many teachers and parents, among majority of teachers and parents are opposing the move saying that the students have not competed syllabus.
“It’s not possible to motivate the students to appear in the exams at this juncture. The government should defer the exams and take steps to create a congenial atmosphere for students to appear in exams,” said Qaisar Bhat teacher in Khanyar Govt school.
Another school teacher from Ganderbal district expressed dismay over the “uncertainty” caused the by the exam issue, saying “it has now increased the risk factor for teachers to be deputed for examination duties in different schools, even teacher have to attend election duties as well.”
One of the parent said, “Government is taking decisions without considering the ground reality. The government should defer the exams till Nov so that students can paper for exam properly.”
He added that holding exams is a routine issue but “now it has become a bone of contention between government and students. Government should reconsider its decision and not use it as a key to show normalcy in Kashmir.
“Students are right in their decision. The Government should defer exams for some time. Keeping in view the present situation, it should take a decision in favour of the students,” said one of the teacher of Girls HSS Rajbagh.
“We need to look for benefit of students. It depends on students and their parents whether they will cooperate with the government decision or not. Community needs to decide,” Abdul Rashid govt teacher.
“Students have completed only 50-60 percent syllabus in schools which needs to be taken into consideration,” he said. Another parent said students have completed only 55 percent syllabus and haven’t attended their practical classes as well.
“I don’t feel it is good to hold exams in Oct as election is also coming even students have not proper time to proper for exams. Government should defer exams for some time till normalcy is restored,” said, Rifat Majid lecture in Govt higher secondary school in Ganderbal.
Meanwhile Principal girls higher secondary Khotibagh Romana Qazi speaking to Press Trust of Kashmir that “My students are ready for exams’. She added that “few days ago we also take golden test of students in which students perform very well.
She further added that “there are different categories of students in school some students are always ready for exams because they have papered for exam very well, Some students are those even if they got 2 month for preparation still they don’t do anything”.
Meanwhile former education minister Altaf Bukhari while talking to Press Trust of Kashmir said that “If students said that we have not completed syllabus so until they can’t complete syllabus govt should looking into this decision”.
He added, “Exams must be delayed for next 10 to 15 days if syllabus is incomplete”. It’s the responsibility of schools and why syllabus is incomplete, if it is try to delay so that students can prepare for exam.
He added that director school education should look into this matter. “Director School education try to find solution as majority of schools have not completed 85% of syllabus:, he said.
Meanwhile when contact Veena Pandita Chairperson JKBOSE said, “We have not decided yet. We are going to held meeting within 4 days so that we will decided what to do”. (PTK)
