CM orders release of additional 1 kg sugar; Ashraf Mir chairs discusses modalities

SRINAGAR, : Following the directions of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to provide additional one Kg of sugar, to every ration card holder, as a goodwill gesture in Ramadan, Minister for Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Mohammad Ashraf Mir today chaired a high-level meeting of officers to discuss the modalities for the implementation of CM’s orders.

The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, DC Srinagar, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Director FCS&CA Nisar Ahmad Wani, Financial Advisor FCS&CA, Deputy Director Supplies Kashmir FCS&CA and other concerned attended the meeting. DCs and other concerned officials of various districts of J&K attended the meeting through video conferencing.

On the occasion, Director FCS&CA informed the Minister that through the CM’s goodwill gesture, 27,22,000 families would be benefited in the holy month of Ramadan which includes 14,50,600 families in Kashmir Division and 12,71,400 families in Jammu division. 14,506 quintals of sugar will be distributed to the beneficiaries in Kashmir while as 12,714 Quintals of sugar will be distributed in Jammu.

While seeking the district wise detail of stock positioning of sugar, Mir impressed upon the district administrations to go for wide publicity through print and electronic media so that the people are aware of this additional benefit.

Mir directed the DCs to choose a nodal officer who will keep a record of the quantity of sugar received and distributed in their respective districts. The nodal officer should also take the village heads in confidence for the proper distribution. The police and other concerned departments should also keep aware about the process.

He further directed the DCs to conduct internal meetings of officers to keep a check on possible pilferage and stressed on maintaining complete transparency in distribution keeping in view the benefit to larger populace.

The Minister asked the DCs to kick-start the distribution themselves and also directed them to do videography at various distribution centres. He also directed them to complete distribution process within a week.

Mir further appealed the people to take full benefit of this scheme and has appealed the general public to inform their district administration in case of any mismanagement.
