CM Mehbooba inaugurates phase-1 of Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover
SRINAGAR,: Mehbooba Mufti today inaugurated the phase-1 of the Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover starting from Amar Singh College to Barzulla in Srinagar.
By the end of this year, the second phase of the flyover, which is the longest in Kashmir, is expected to be ready. The work on the flyover had started in 2013 with an estimated cost of Rs 369 crore. The then chief minister Omar Abdullah had laid the foundation of the flyover.
The project is being executed by the Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency (JKERA). Simplex Limited is the project contractor. The construction work on the flyover was badly hit due to floods in 2014 and an uprising triggered by killing of militant commander Burhan Wani in 2016.
Works Minister Naeem Akhtar, who was also present at the occasion said that in terms of road infrastructure in Srinagar, this flyover is the biggest intervention.
“The construction of this flyover was halted due to floods in 2014. In 15, some work was done then again in 2016, due to the situation no work could be done. But today we stand here despite all odds, ” Akhtar said.
Meanwhile Police issued advisory for traffic the newly constructed Rambagh-Jehangir Chowk flyoverphase-Ist has been thrown open for one way traffic. Commuters travelling to Budgam, Hyderpora, Rawalpora, Baghat Barzulla & Airport can use the flyover for commuting. However, the commuters travelling to Chanapora and Natipora shall adopt Rambagh bridge beneath flyover.
The traffic on flyover shall be exclusively one way and no traffic in the opposite direction shall be allowed towards Tuslibagh via flyover.
However after inauguration of a new flyover in Jahangir Chowk Rambagh, two persons sustained injuries after they were hit by a biker on the flyover.
Reports said barely after an hour when the newly inaugurated flyover was thrown open a couple was hit by a biker resulting in the injuries to both.
However, the injured couples were shifted to Barzulla hospital Srinagar for the treatment where their condition is said to be stable now (PTK)
