srinagar:-Police have registered a case against two teachers for allegedly sending objectionable messages to female students over mobile messaging app WhatsApp in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said on Friday.

Officials said the two teachers of Government High School Hangha in Handwara have been suspended and an enquiry has been initiated against them.

Chief education officer of Kupwara Mohammad Shafi War said the case came to light after parents of some students approached the school authorities.

“The two teachers have been sending messages to girl students of class 9 and 10 over WhatsApp. We have initiated an enquiry and a report will be submitted within seven days,” War said.

War, however, said he does not remember the names of the accused.

Sub-divisional police officer of Handwara Shabir Ahmad Khan said the police have taken cognizance of the matter.

“We have registered a case. There are allegations that they have been sending unacceptable or lewd messages to a girl. We are investigating and if need be, they will be arrested,” Khan said.

Last month, a teacher in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district was arrested on charges of rape after he approached a hospital along with a class 11 girl student for her abortion.
