Jammu makes record participation in poster making competition on Road Safety awareness

Jammu, April 28: All records were broken when over 1300 students from various schools of Jammu sat together in the poster making competition organized by the Motor Vehicles Department, J&K during the ongoing 29th National Road Safety Week.

The event held in the Wave Mall premises with media partnership from Big FM, Jammu was inaugurated by Dr. V. S. Senthil, Conservator of Forests, Jammu. Over twenty five schools from Jammu and adjoining areas such Nagrota, Samba, Ratnuchak, R S Pura, Kathua participated in the poster making competition. Scores of parents had brought their children and were waiting since early morning to participate in the event. The onlookers at the wave mall were mesmerized at such huge participation, and there was hardly space left on the central foyer for general visitors. The onlookers too got a feel of the importance of road safety while witnessing the deep commitment of participating students.

Saugat Biswas, Transport Commissioner, J&K said that the poster making competition was conceived with an aim of making the future generation sensitive to and aware of the importance of road safety and also catching attention and imagination of the onlookers and parents alike. While going through the creative process of making the posters the young minds will go through a thinking experience about road safety, which will stay with them for a long time to come. “In all probability this well organized Poster making Competition with at-a-time participation of 1300 children must be a record in the country” he added.

Vikrant Sharma, Cluster Programming Head of 92.7 BIG FM informed that BIG FM is India’s largest radio network and has been known to leverage its reach with such campaigns and initiatives and educate the masses about relevant social issues. “We immediately grabbed the opportunity given by the Transport Commissioner to partner the event as it was for such an important social cause. This unique concept of commemorating the 29th National Road Safety Week by the MVD, J&K acquaints the young minds about road safety issues and their implications. During the competition the participants were informed about the significance of road safety rules by the famous music jockey Juhie” he added.

RTO, Jammu, Deep Raj informed that the panel of judges including the internationally acclaimed names from Jammu, Suman Gupta and Manoj Chopra assessed the entries based on innovative ideas; and the ones capturing the essence of the theme through their art were declared as winners. The competition was divided into three age groups. In the Senior category of 13-16 years the top 3 positions were bagged by Mohd Shahzad Abdullah from APS Ratnuchak, Muskaan Sharma from KV No. 2 Jammu Cantt. & 3rdprize winner was TanishaPanjotra from APS Ratnuchak. In the 6-9 years category the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes were won by Vrindalika Sharma, Parina Kandhari& Pankhudi Gupta all from DPS Jammu; and in the 10-12 years these positions were taken by Rishita Mahajan, Aashvi Nargotra &A neesh Sharma again all from DPS Jammu.

In the end Deep Raj extended his heartfelt thanks to the BIG FM team for being a partner in the ongoing weeklong campaign on road safety and also thanked the GM of Wave Mall Jammu Mr. Ranjit Singh Randhawa and his team for all the support in making the event a great success.

Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were Vikas Sharma, Joint Transport Commissioner J&K; SidhharthMahajan, Station Head, RashiDutta, Assistant Transport Commissioner; MJ Juhie, MJ Rahul and MJ Nitish, Monika Sales Manager, Big FM; Yugal Sharma, Swaran Singh, Shafqat, Assistant Regional Transport Officers, and Motor Vehicle Inspectors.
