Transport Commissioner reviews preparation for Road Safety Week commencing from April 23

JAMMU APRIL 17: Transport Commissioner, J&K, Saugat Biswas reviewed the preparedness for observing the 29th Road Safety Week in the capital city Jammu commencing from April 23 and also finalized the action plan for its observance in all districts across the State.

The meeting was attended by Traffic, Health, School Education, Higher Education, Fire & Emergency Services, Information, Culture Department, in addition to Jammu University, Scouts & Guides and NCC.

The Road Safety Week will be observed across the State with a variety of activities with one major activity assigned for each day for all the seven days.

Activities such as Walkathon by School and college students will be held on the 23rd of April 2018. Eye testing and health camps with road safety quiz competitions shall be organized at various locations in the State for the drivers and the associated staff of commercial vehicles on 24th.  in collaboration with the Health Department & Red FM. 25th of April will see elaborate awareness programme on accident management for drivers, vehicle staff students and volunteers of NSS, NCC  etc . A mega on-the-spot painting competition will be held at Kala Kendra, Jammu on 26th of April for young students. A “HELMET RALLY” on two wheelers will be brought out on the streets of Jammu on 27th of April. Poster making competition will be held in collaboration with Big-FM on 28th. On Sunday i.e. 29th a cycle rally will be brought out by cycling enthusiast early in the morning. The week will end with a grand finale on 30th of April.

Transport Commissioner informed that this year the theme of the Road safety week will be “Sadak Suraksha- Jeevan Raksha”. We are trying to rope in all agencies like Schools, colleges, Universities, NGOs and Traffic Police Department to participate actively in the Road Safety Week. The idea is to sensitize people towards safe driving practices and good road behavior. “With concerted efforts of the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) J&K has seen reduction in road accidents fatalities this year compared to the previous year” he added. Mohinder Singh, Additional Transport Commissioner shall personally oversee the celebration of the week in all the districts of the State. The Additional Transport Commissioner informed that during the week all the vehicle users found adhering to good practices on roads like wearing helmets, seat belts and adhering to traffic lights and rules will be felicitating on the roads.

Jammu, Deep Raj, Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, Naresh Kumar, Joint Director Information, Jammu, Dr Parmil Kumar, Associate Professor, University of Jammu, Ajit Kumar, Joint Director School Education, Jammu Dr. Chandar Parkash, Deputy Director Health, Jammu and representatives of various other departments were also present on the occasion.
