Asifa rape-and-murder case: NC demands transfer of case from Kathua

Srinagar  : A day after lawyers in Kathua tried to prevent the Crime Branch from filing challan in the horrific rape-and-murder of Asifa Bano, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) on Tuesday demanded that the case be shifted frp, Kathua court for the “sake of fair trial.”

Addressing a press conference here, NC general secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar said the case must be transferred from Kathua court to any other court in Jammu and Kashmir “for the sake of free and fair trail”.

“Chief Minister had assured on the floor of the house that the culprits won’t be spared. But the yesterday’s incident gave the birth to many apprehensions. We demand the shifting of Asifa case from Kathua court to any other court in the state for fair trail where there will be no hurdles,” Sagar told reporters.

He said that the involvement of policemen to destroy the evidence testifies how far they can go into this particular case.

“The government must prove that it is not involved in this design by shifting the case immediately from Kathua court,” he said.

He also demanded a speedy trial in the case so that the culprits are punished at the earliest.

He said NC will defend the principles of humanity and will continue to fight for the cause to get justice for Asifa.
