Authorities have imposed curfew-like restrictions in Kangan tehsil of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district to stem any protests against the injuring of a youth in police action yesterday.

23-year-old Gowhar Ahmad Rather is battling for life at SKIMS Soura where he was admitted yesterday evening after suffering firearm injuries in his head. “He has firearm injury in the head causing internal bleeding in brain. He is on ventilator and his condition is critical,” the doctors have said.

Protests had erupted in Kangan after he was injured yesterday. While the locals said that Rather was hit by a bullet, Jammu and Kashmir Police claimed that he fell down during a police chase and suffered a head injury after hitting a drain edge.

To stem any protests, the authorities in Ganderbal district have imposed restrictions on the movement of people under Section 144 CrPC today.
