Forces resort to aerial firing in Pampore
Srinagar: Government forces resorted to aerial firing in Pampore after scores of protesters pelted rocks on them on Thursday.
Soon after the incidents shopkeepers downed their shutters and people were seen running in chaos, witnesses said.
The incident took place amid a gunfight between militants and government forces in Balehama, Khunmoh area not so far from Pampore.
Police said that contact was established with the holed up militants after a BJP activist was attacked by militants.
The PSO of the BJP activist identified as Bilal Ahmad sustained injuries in the attack soon after which a search operation was launched leading to the gunfight, police said.
Reports from the gunfight site said that clashes also erupted in area.
Hundreds of youth assembled around the encounter site and pelted stones on forces to disrupt their operation triggering massive clashes in Balhama area of Khunmoh.
Government forces retaliated to stone pelting protesters by tear gas shelling, local sources said.
